Teeter Inversion Table

Teeter Inversion Table, Hang Ups EP650

If you are looking for the Teeter inversion table, as seen on a TV infomercial, here is some information on that product, where to purchase it, and a short demonstration video.

Teeter makes several inversion models, this being one of its most popular models, the Teeter Hang Ups EP650.

Teeter currently offers a 30-day in home trial for only $14.95!

As with all inversion tables, when inverting 20 degrees or more, the spine becomes gently decompressed; disc space increases; nerve pressure reduces; spinal fluid is allowed to flow and nourish the discs; swelling and muscle inflammation decreases, and therefore back pain lessens or is eliminated.

User reviews stating the benefits of inversion tables are overwhelmingly toward the positive, so you may wonder:

Why Purchase a Teeter Inversion Table Over Any Other Brand?

The benefits are many, but let’s start with . . .

Stability:

When suspended partially or completely upside down, you do not want to worry that the apparatus may slide or shift. The Teeter inversion table has a very stable support with foot extensions that add 20 percent more to the A-frame base. This gives a 20% greater stability than other brands.

Patented Technology:

Unlike other inversion tables, Teeter’s patented Flex Technology allows the table to move with you. This promotes a much more thorough and comfortable stretch, plus greater range of motion.

Optimum Table Surface:

When inverted, the last thing you want is friction against your back and the table, making you uncomfortable and restricting your stretch.

The Teeter inversion table is smooth, flexible, yet strong. It is made of a plastic injection-molded bed that is more durable than nylon or vinyl beds, plus it is not covered with any material that can wear or tear. It is also very easy to clean.

Quiet:

Imagine inverting and having to hear your table squeak, which happens over time with most inversion tables. The Teeter inversion table has a derattler knob and specialized pivot bearings that prevent squeaking during the life of the table.

Integrity of Structure:

Note that there are currently no adequate government regulations to effectively oversee the integrity of inversion tables, and unfortunately some manufacturers have had their inversion tables recalled due to consumer injuries.

Teeter is the only manufacturer of inversion tables that has undergone the intense testing and certification by Underwriter’s Laboratories, proving itself to be above and beyond other brands in terms of quality, stability and structure. UL (Underwriter’s Laboratories) has tested and certified Teeter as meeting their medical grade equipment standard. They have also tested the Hang Up for weight load, ankle restraint endurance, and other factors, for safety and quality during real world use.

These are just a few of the many benefits of a Teeter inversion table.

Other benefits of a Teeter inversion table over any other brand are:

  • Security features
  • Minimal assembly and easy to store
  • Great customer service
  • Five year warranty covering every component, which is not offered by any other inversion table manufacturer
  • Exquisite balance permits controlled inversion, so there is no jerking, or feeling that you are out of control.

And finally, a Bonus:

A complete Core System that includes a DVD with strengthening and stretching exercises to be used during inversion, a color guide that illustrates stretches and exercises for beginners through advanced, and a Core System email series.

If you suffer from back pain, do yourself a favor and purchase a Teeter inversion table. Elongating the spine and stretching the muscles will do wonders for alleviating for your chronic back ache.

Teeter Inversion Table Contraindications

Teeter inversion tables are wonderful for relieving back pain, stretching muscles, decompressing the spine, and have a slew of other benefits. They are convenient and can be folded and put away when not in use. The benefits gained from using an inversion table can be astounding; however, some people are advised not to engage in inversion for various health reasons. Here is a list of Teeter inversion table contraindications, which would apply to any brand of
inversion table.

  • Blood Thinners: This includes prescription drugs as well as daily aspirin for the purpose of blood thinning. Use of anti-coagulants indicates circulatory problems, which would be contraindicated for inversion.
  • Heart or Circulatory disorders: Again, if you have circulatory issues, it is not advised to invert.
  • High Blood Pressure: A pressure above 140/90. In this situation the heart is working too hard to pump blood through the circulatory system, so once again this points to a circulatory issue.
  • Spinal implants or Known Bone Weakness: Inversion may worsen these conditions.
  • Spinal Trauma: Get approval from a physician stating that your spine is healthy enough for inversion.
  • Hiatal or Ventral Hernia: Any hernia is a weakness in and may be worsened by inverting.
  • Middle Ear Infection: When inverting with a middle ear infection, one may feel disoriented or dizzy.
  • Pregnancy: Pregnant women should have clearance from their physician before inverting.
  • Conjunctivitis: Also known as “pink eye”, this is an inflammation of the eye membrane due to bacterial or viral infection.
  • Retinal Detachment: When the retina is detached from the optic nerve, inversion is contraindicated.
  • Glaucoma: This is an elevated pressure within the eye, which is increased when inverted.
  • Stroke: A stroke is caused by a blocked or a burst vessel in the neck or head. Inverting brings more pressure and blood to the head and is contraindicated in this condition.
  • Transient Ischemic Attack: This is also called a “TIA” or a “mini stroke”. Not as severe as a stroke, it is a condition where the brain is temporarily deprived of adequate blood supply. As with a stroke, it is another Teeter inversion table contraindication.
  • Morbid Obesity: Many people with morbid obesity have some of the issues mentioned above. Also, inversion tables have a weight limit, which may be less than the individual’s weight.

This is not an exhaustive list of Teeter inversion table contraindications, but it is a guide. If you are not sure if inverting is safe for you or not, have a discussion with your physician before purchasing your inversion table.

Teeter Inversion Table Instructions

Teeter Inversion Table InstructionsEven though Teeter makes very user friendly inversion tables, the Teeter Inversion Table instructions that come with your table, are very specific about paying attention to the directions.

When your table arrives it will contain Teeter inversion table instructions, which include a printed direction manual, as well as an instructional DVD. The table itself needs to be assembled and it is best to read the directions rather than plow into it with all self confidence, only to find that there are a few too many pieces left over. You don’t want to get on the table to discover that there are a few too many pieces left over; nor do you want to see an empty hole missing a bolt.

Besides putting the table together, be aware of all safety precautions before utilizing the table. There is a correct way to invert so that your experience is pleasant and successful.

Following are some simple Teeter inversion table instructions, but are only meant to give a general idea of how to use the table. By all means, watch the DVD that comes with the table prior to actually using it.

Teeter Inversion Table Instructions: How to use your table

After you have followed the Teeter inversion table instructions and have the table put together and adjusted, turn your back to the table and step onto the foot platform. Lean forward and attach the ankle clamps and push in the locking pin. Grab the handles and lean back into the table.

If you think this may make you a little nervous, you might feel better if you order the Over EZ Training Handles when ordering the machine. These are large handles specifically made for the novice to give them more confidence and greater control.

Now push back into the table while releasing the handles. Raise your arms toward the ceiling, and as you do you will feel some movement in the table. Very slowly move your arms above your head and back towards the wall behind you. It is the weight of your arms that propels you backwards.

By now you probably haven’t moved much, but you should have a feel of the dynamics of inverting.

Bring your arms down to your sides and stand upright.

Repeat the process again, bringing the arms up past your head and towards the wall behind you. The more force you put into this motion, the easier the table will go back. Find what is comfortable for you. You can also do this with one arm instead of two. Remember, the Teeter inversion table instructions that come with the table will show you this information in detail.

The first time you do this, have the intention of inverting only until you are parallel to the floor. In the beginning you do not want to completely invert as it may be a shock to your muscles, spine and head. Remember, inverting is something the body must become adjusted to. Again the Teeter inversion table instructions that come with the equipment will be specific about this.

When you are parallel to the floor, or 20 degrees inverted if that feels comfortable to you, remain there no longer than 2 minutes. Over time you may invert for longer and at much greater angles, but always listen to your body first; it will tell you to what degree and how long it wants to invert.

Bring yourself back upright by bringing the arms forward and back to your sides, or by pulling yourself up with the handles. Do not lean forward off the table as you do this; keep your back and head against the table.

Let your body adjust to the pull of gravity again, and when you are ready lean forward and remove your feet from the platform.

These are the basic Teeter inversion table instructions. This should give you an idea of how the table is to be utilized, but remember, when all else fails read the directions!

Teeter Inversion Table Comparison

Teeter Inversion Table ComparisonTeeter makes terrific inversion tables, along with many accessories to choose from. It can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you are not sure which inversion table you want. Here I have formed a teeter inversion table comparison to make choosing a little less confusing.

Teeter Inversion Table Comparison: The EP Series

The EP series are Teeters home use inversion table models. The EP  series all have Flex technology, which allows the table to move with the user, giving a greater range of motion. Their most popular model is the. . .

EP 550/EP 650

These are the same machine with two different numbers simply for organization purposes. The EP 650 is the one shown on TV that many affiliates promote, but it is the same as the EP 550 sold in their stores.

The EP 550 is the basic version of these models.

EP 550 Sport

A step up from the basic EP 550, the EP Sport comes with two accessories:

Gravity Boots and the CV Bar (conversion bar). Adding gravity boots to your inversion allows for a greater in-depth exercise workout. The CV bar is needed to modify the ankle closure so that the gravity boots can be attached.

The EP 550 Sport also comes with the EZ Stretch Traction Handles. If you would like a deeper stretch, but without total inversion, these can accommodate you. Your back is able to stretch and elongate simply by pushing on the handles.

EP 850

The EP 850 comes with Over EZ Handles. These are simply larger handles that are useful for those who feel the need of added security when gliding in and out of inversion.

The EP 850 also comes with the EZ Angle Teeter Strap. With this attachment you preset the degree of preferred inversion, and the table will not go beyond that point.

Also the EP 850 comes with the Ergo-Embrace System, which are foam cups that provide greater ankle support and comfort.

EP 950

The EP 950 has more accessories than any of the other models:

  • Over EZ Handles to help guide in and out of inversion.
  • EX Stretch Traction Handles allowing you to manually elongate your back by pushing down on the handles.
  • EZ Angle Tether Strap to preset the degree of inversion.
  • Ergo Embrace Ankle System to give extra cushion and support to your ankles.

This model also comes with larger a tubing frame, and cannot be converted for gravity boots.

Teeter Inversion Table Comparison: Contour Power Inversion Series

Many people do not realize that Teeter makes motorized inversion tables as well. They look rather different from the EP series in that they stand on a rectangular base instead of an A frame base. They also tend to look heavier and more solid, and they do not have the Flex technology. They all come with the EZ Reach Handles, which are an accessory in the EP models, and of course they are motorized.

A Teeter Inversion Table comparison photo gallery can be seen online, and this would give a better understanding of how the motorized and manual inversion tables compare physically.

Unlike the EP series that are for home use, the Contour Power Series is utilized more in commercial settings such as gyms, physical therapy clinics, etc.
Let’s start the Teeter Inversion Table comparison with the. . .

Power XL

This table accommodates the larger person, from 6’ to 7’4”, and a weight up to 350 lbs. This model is excellent for sports team training. It also has a motorized ankle closure.

Power VI

The Power VI is more of a commercial model. It is not built to accommodate larger size users, and employs a pin closure rather than a motorized closure.

DFM

The DFM Teeter Inversion Table was made predominantly for health care professionals.

First this table has a face cut out so the user can lie face down. In this position the user’s back is accessible to massage or adjustment. The forearm rests move for greater alignment and position control. It also has knee bolsters that support the knees in either the prone or supine positions.

The DFM comes with knee high ankle closure, making the closures much easier to reach, along with an ankle locking system, providing greater user security.
The last on our Teeter Inversion Table comparison list is. . .

Power VIGL

This model has the same features as the Power VI, but also has the knee high ankle closure with a 2-way locking system.

As you see, Teeter makes quite a variety of inversion tables to fit most every need. To see a picture of each of these tables, you can view a Teeter Inversion Table comparison photo gallery. Hopefully this Teeter Inversion Table comparison has been useful to you.

Teeter Inversion Table Accessories

Teeter Inversion Table AccessoriesIf you have bought your Teeter Inversion Table or are about to, you may wonder what Teeter Inversion Table accessories are available. There are quite a few. Here is a list of your options and a description of each.

Teeter Inversion Table Accessories:

Vibration Cushion and Neck Arch Support

The neck arch support contains infrared heating. Combine that with the vibration cushion and you will have a wonderful relaxing inversion session that can be felt clear through your body. The effects of using these products together usually results in reduced muscle pain, improved circulation and deeper relaxation.

Some specifics on these two Teeter Inversion Table accessories are:

The massage cushion has 10 adjustable levels and comes with a remote control LCD. The neck arch support cradles the neck in a way that restores  appropriate curve allowing for greater decompression. The neck support also has 2 infrared heaters that target the upper back and shoulders.

Herbal Pillow Package

These include a neck embrace and an herbal pillow which are wrapped in breathable cotton. They are filled with aromatherapy herbs, and can be heated in the microwave to relax tense muscles; or cooled in the freezer and used to reduce inflamed muscles.

EZ Stretch Traction Handles

Traction handles are used for those who do not want to fully invert, but still want the benefits of elongation. By pushing on the handles you increase traction and stretch your back, even at a mild inverted angle.

Over EZ Training Handles

These handles replace the standard table handles and are used to give greater control when easing into and out of inversion. The training handles are for people new to the inversion table, and who might want greater control in the beginning.

More Teeter Inversion table accessories are. . .

CV Bar (Conversion Bar)

The CV Bar along with the gravity boots, bring added comfort and support to the feet and ankles while inverted. The CV Bar is needed if one chooses to utilize the use of gravity boots. This bar converts the standard ankle clamp on certain models, and allows gravity boot attachment.

Gravity Boots

With the use of gravity boots, while inverted on the table, you can take your exercise workouts to another level. Inverted sit ups, crunches and bends take on a whole new experience when using gravity boots.

EZ-Up Inversion Rack

The EZ-Up Inversion Rack can be placed in a doorway. With the use of gravity boots, one is able to hang upside down in the doorway. This system is good for those who do not have a Teeter inversion table, or for those on the go and cannot take a table with them.

The Adapter Kit

The Adapter Kit includes gravity boots and a CV Bar.

EZ Angle Tether Strap

This tether strap takes the guess work out of inversion. Attach your strap and set it to whichever angle you desire. Your choices are 20, 40, or 60 degrees. As you invert, the table will stop at the preset angle.

As you see, there are quite a few Teeter Inversion Table accessories designed to make your inversion experience more enjoyable and efficient. You can learn more about Teeter Inversion Table accessories on Teeter’s official website.

Teeter Hang Ups: Help For Back Pain

In terms of medical help for most back conditions, doctors can only help to a minimal degree when it comes to the management of chronic musculoskeletal back pain; however, more people today are looking for other methods that are accessible to improving their over all health. They do not want to spend the rest of their lives taking pills to cover up their pain, nor do they want an invasive surgery that is not guaranteed to help their problem.

Rather than being resigned to living with some level of back or spinal discomfort, consider a Teeter Hang Ups inversion table.

Teeter Hang Ups: How it Works

Teeter Hang Ups has helped millions find natural relief in the convenience of their own homes, and it takes only a few minutes a day. Inversion tables work by allowing your spine to decompress naturally using your own body weight and gravity. In a healthy spine the vertebrae of the spine are held apart by discs. Overtime, gravity forces the vertebrae together, compressing these discs and often impeding nerves that traverse through them. When the vertebrae no longer have the ability to move freely, due to compressed discs, surrounding muscles tense, inflame, and cause pain. When lying on a Teeter Hang Ups inversion table, the spine can gently elongate, allowing the discs to regain their integrity, and pinched nerves to be relieved. Surrounding muscles begin to heal and overall there is a great lessening of pain.

A wonderful article on INVERSION TABLE BENEFITS is here.

As your body begins to gently stretch, your spine starts to re-align which can result in better balance with better posture. Many doctors as well as physical therapist recognize inversion as an effective way to prevent fatigue and joint injuries.

Each day as you use your Teeter Hang Ups inversion table you will find that you are strengthening ligaments, improving joint flexibility and range of motion, and re-building your core strength if you also do exercises while inverted. Inverting also helps relieve stress and fatigue, as well as bringing increased oxygen flow to the brain, and a sense of overall fitness. However it must be noted that if you have certain medical conditions such as high blood pressure, glaucoma, or fused vertebrae, it is advised that you seek approval from your medical practitioner before engaging in inversion therapy.

If you have been spending hundreds of dollars and are still suffering from chronic back pain; epidural injections do not work; physical therapy leaves you feeling exhausted; pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications do not help, nor do you want surgery, try the Teeter Hang Ups inversion table and see what it is like to live with significantly reduced, or even complete elimination of back pain. When you want a natural in-home solution to regaining a healthier back, try the Teeter Hang Ups inversion table.

INVERSION TABLE BENEFITS

Inversion table benefits are not restricted only to the relief of back pain, which can be caused by any number of factors:  poor posture; a damaged back due to overuse of certain sports, an accident that damaged the back, certain spinal birth defects, and certainly just plain old gravity taking its toll on the spine. As you’ll see below, inversion table benefits the entire body.

Inversion table benefits

>>Click here to purchase a Teeter Hang Ups inversion table<<

The concept behind inversion tables is simple and has been around since the days of Hippocrates, the acclaimed Father of Medicine. In brief, the spine’s vertebrae are separated by a cushy material called a “disc”. This disc allows smooth motion of the spine and holds the vertebrae apart. Over time gravity forces the vertebrae to compress on the discs, and therefore the discs lose their integrity. Without proper functioning of the discs, the vertebrae can lock in place instead of having their full range of motion. This causes the supporting muscles to tighten, spasm, and/or become inflamed. Nerves that pass through the vertebrae can get impinged, producing severe pain or numbness.

The common factor to all this is pain, and often times chronic, unrelieved pain.

Depending on the severity, there are very few alternatives to relieving back pain. If minor, sometimes pain pills or certain exercises will help; but for people with severe chronic pain, there is very little outside of surgery or simply living with the pain. An inversion table benefits those with back pain, is one excellent choice that is known to produce fantastic results to the greater number of people who use it.

Inversion Table Benefits–Some Specifics

Let’s look at some specific inversion table benefits:

  • The body is allowed to stretch and realign itself. By inverting, the vertebrae are realigned and the vertebral muscles and ligaments relax, relieving pain. In general, backache is relieved, as the constant pressure on the vertebrae is lessened. This frees the discs, impinged nerves and the facet joints.
  • The intervertebral discs, that is, the discs between the vertebrae, are decompressed. This allows them to regain their elasticity and resilience. Inflamed muscles around the spine begin to heal and soften.
  • When inverted the body’s muscles relax, which promotes permeation of tissues and organs with oxygenated blood. This is vitally important as not only the internal organs are nourished, but also the periphery such as skin, hair and nails.
  • Muscular inflammation is relieved.
  • Ligaments are strengthened.
  • Aids in venous circulation which helps relieve varicose veins. Overall the boy is oxygenated, which improves cellular function.
  • Halting the constant gravity pull on the internal organs allows those organs to relax and even decongest.
  • Good posture is restored. When doing core exercises while inverted, muscles are strengthened especially muscles that support the spine, while at the same time other muscles become appropriately relaxed. A realignment and stability is restored to the body which is evident in improved posture.
  • Oxygenated blood flows to the brain, bringing calm and greater clarity.
  • Decompressing the cervical spine (neck) relieves headaches and tension in the head caused by tight neck and shoulder muscles.
  • The blood and lymph nodes receive accelerated cleansing due to improved circulation. Lymph fluid often becomes stagnated in people, due to not having its own circulatory source. Inversion creates a reverse gravity that induces the lymph fluid to drain, decreasing stagnation. Draining lymph is vital to the removal of waste products and in the transportation of white blood cells, which are the major component of the immune system.

As you see, inversion table benefits not only the spine, but assists the entire body.

Let’s look at some research on the effects of inversion to support my statements.

Here is a summation from a paper by Sheffield, F. “Adaptation of Tilt Table for Lumbar Traction.” Arch Phys Med Rehabil 45 (Sep. 1964): 469-472.

The study was on 175 patients who were unable to work due to back pain. With only 8 inversion treatments, 155 were able to go back to work full time. The main reason for improvement, according to the study, was the stretching of the vertebral muscles and ligaments and widening of the discs. There were a variety of diagnosis that found improvement, including but not limited to, sciatica, herniated discs and osteoarthritis.

Here is another by Nosse, L. “Inverted Spinal Traction.” Arch Phys Med Rehabil 59 (Aug. 1978):367-370.

This study recorded EMG activity during inversion. An EMG shows severity of muscle pain. In this finding the EMG found a 35% decline in pain within the first 10 seconds of inversion, due to increase in spinal length. That’s very impressive.

Inversion Table Benefits Over Other Forms of Inversion

In truth, we don’t need an inversion table to benefit from inversion, but to me it is by far the most convenient and complete method of decompressing the spine.

One method of inverting is by using inversion boots, by which you hang upside down from a bar. This method was used by the U.S. Army Physical Fitness School. They determined that the soldiers who inverted regularly had fewer injuries related to their joints, and their joints also healed quicker from joint compression damage.

Quoting Lieutenant Colonel Rieger, Cammanding officer of the USAPFS in Fort Benning, GA, “Your inversion boots andinversion table benefits table provide an ideal way to mitigate the stress of jumping, running, and other strenuous tasks we require our soldiers to regularly perform. We intend to include inverted decompression and mobilization in future Army-wide physical training doctrine. You might also be interested to know that the physical therapy department of our post hospital here at Fort Benning also uses your table.”

They were using Teeter Hang Ups inversion equipment, which I personally recommend, as I feel they are the producers of the best inversion equipment, specifically their Teeter Hang Ups inversion tables.

This is a very encouraging testimonial; however, if you look at the photo of the troops suspended upside down in their inversion boots, you might think this is a little more than you’re willing to do. Inversion table benefits allow for a relaxed, gradual inversion that I think is far less potentially stressful to the body than total inversion using the boots as these troops do. With hanging inversion such as this, there is complete traction on the spine immediately, rather than allowing the spine and muscles to acclimate to the reverse pull of gravity.

The use of inversion chairs is another popular method to invert, however they only allow up to 70 degree inversions, which can be a handicap if you want to progress to a full 90 degree inversion, which provides the most benefit in terms of spinal decompression. Also you are not able to perform the core strengthening exercises, and full body stretches, in a chair like you can on a table.

Slant boards are a mini-inversion method, but it can be done at home. You could literally rig up a board that is tilted against the wall, and lay on it. I don’t consider this particularly safe. You can also buy slant boards that are made for this purpose, but the degree of slant is very minimal compared to that of other forms of inversion.

Inversion Table Benefits: Teeter Hang Ups Over Any Other Brand

>>Click here to purchase a Teeter Hang Ups inversion table<<

Overall, the inversion table benefits far outweigh the benefits of other forms of inversion, though of course the table is not for everyone and one of these other methods may be more appropriate for you. However, if you are looking specifically for an inversion table, I can not stress enough that the Teeter Hang Ups is an excellent table to own. Here are some reasons:

  • A smooth steel surface that prevents friction when inverting and elongating, and is easy to clean
  • A Flex Technology that allows the steel bed to move with you, permitting greater range of motion, especially when doing stretches or exercises
  • No nylon, vinyl or cloth beds to rip or tear
  • Precision balancing that allows full control of the bed, even when doing exercises
  • Quiet. A derattler knob reduces shifting for a quiet rotation
  • Certified to UL safety standards for inversion tables.
  • Comes 85% pre-assembled
  • Easy to fold and store
  • Five year warranty
  • Comes with a core system stretching and exercise guide, core system E-mail series, and bonus DVD material which includes five 10-20 minute exercise and stretching healthy back classes

Inversion table benefits for the back are numerous. If you suffer back pain, seriously consider getting an inversion table if you do not already have one.  Teeter Hang Ups has the best inversion table benefits, and you can read more about that model here; or you can go directly to their site and purchase a Teeter Hang Ups inversion table here:
